Choosing fence style and materials Woodlyn, PA

When contemplating the erection of a barrier around your property in Woodlyn, PA, numerous factors must be pondered. The selection of an appropriate fence style and materials is paramount to ensure both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Residents of this quaint Pennsylvanian borough are privy to a variety of fencing options that can cater to diverse tastes and requirements.

Initially, one should deliberate upon the primary purpose the fence will serve. Whether it is intended for privacy, security, or simply ornamental purposes will greatly influence your choice. Once the objective is crystalized, exploring the plethora of styles becomes a more streamlined process.

Wooden fences are a perennial favorite among homeowners due to their classic look and natural charm. However, within this category alone lies an array of choices: picket fences evoke an idyllic suburban feel; meanwhile, tall stockade fences furnish robust privacy. Horizontal slat fences offer a modern twist on traditional wood fencing, infusing contemporary flair into any outdoor space.

Material selection is another critical decision point. While wood exudes timeless beauty and warmth, it demands regular maintenance such as staining or painting to prevent decay and weather damage. Cedar and redwood are highly sought-after wood types for their inherent resistance to rot and pests—albeit at a higher cost.

In contrast to wood's organic allure stands vinyl—a material boasting durability with minimal upkeep required. Though its initial investment might be steeper compared to some woods, its longevity could prove cost-effective over time.

Aluminum or wrought iron presents yet another avenue for homeowners seeking durability coupled with elegance. These metals can be fashioned into intricate designs but do come with considerations regarding rust prevention and price.

In conclusion, choosing the right fence style and materials in Woodlyn depends on balancing practical needs with personal taste while also considering long-term maintenance commitments and budget constraints. With careful deliberation—and perhaps consultation with local experts—a fence can be chosen that not only enhances curb appeal but also serves its intended purpose faithfully for years to come.

We cannot say enough concerning Philz Landscape. One call and I connected with Pat. He met with us for a project which entailed removal of a partial cinder block porch with iron poles and remodeled an entire porch. We are pleased with the work performed. We found found that Pat was a man of his word and committed to pleasing us with minor finishes. I would highly recommend this company. Sincerely, Ricky and Donna L Jones

Angi provided me with several contractors, I received estimates but chose Philz Landscaping (even after coming in higher) because he satisfied with his estimate and start date our fervent desire to complete the project before winter set in. Alex, Javier set the example of professionalism in setting up the area to remove fencing and gate, installed vinyl fence with double gate (assisted by Carlos), removed all debris, left my yard spotless and we are extremely satisfied with the new fence and gate. Questions we had were answered (Helena, Phil) promptly and Alex, Javier went above and beyond ensuring my wife’s concerns were taken care of; I want again to Thank the team at Philz Landscaping and recommend highly to perform your project.

Had Phil and his workers come by my house to work on the backyard in May this year. Eliminate weeds, regrade soil and replant grass seed. 158 feet worth of backyard which he estimated $1600 to do. There was a hiccup with his office and scheduling and he wasn't even aware of the set date in mid-May. He rescheduled for the week after and took off $100 for inconvenience. His crew shows up and does the job and weeks after, grass grew....but not fully in corners of the yard. I called him back, voicemail immediately. Got in touch with his office and they said they would pass the message. His response times are atrocious and I told him about the patches in the grass. He says "no problem I'll send guys to evaluate and re-seed". They show up and do the job again. By mid-July, weeds are growing in very strong and grass is dying at exceedingly high rate despite me watering. I called him back and he says "that's odd, I'll come by this afternoon or tomorrow" in September when I finally get a hold of him. He never shows up or responds to texts or further calls. The photos below are post-lawn work with visible patches and weeds. I had to spend additional monies on top soil, grass seed and water to correct the loss of 50% of the lawn!! If you want an overpriced job not done right, Phil is your guy!!

Philz Landscaping built 2 patios on my property. One is flagstone and the other is pavers with a retaining wall. Both are absolutely beautiful. Working with Phil and his team has been a great experience. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliability, quality, and reasonable pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Woodlyn, PA, where there can be diverse weather including rain, snow, and humidity, materials like pressure-treated pine, cedar, and vinyl are popular choices. Pressure-treated pine is affordable and resistant to rot and insects. Cedar has a natural resistance to moisture and decay while providing an attractive look. Vinyl is durable, virtually maintenance-free and holds up well against various weather conditions.
The right style depends on your primary purpose for the fence. If privacy is your main concern, consider tall wooden fences without gaps or a solid vinyl panel fence. For ornamental purposes or to contain pets without obstructing views completely, aluminum or picket fences might be more appropriate. It’s also important to consider any local zoning regulations or HOA rules that may dictate fence style in your area.
Maintenance levels vary by material; wood fences require regular staining or painting to maintain their appearance and durability against weather elements. Vinyl fencing offers minimal maintenance needs—only occasional cleaning with soap and water is necessary—and doesn’t require painting or staining. Aluminum fencing is also low-maintenance but may need periodic checks for any loose connections or rust spots that need touch-ups with rust-resistant paint.
